The New Mom’s Survival Guide

The New Mom’s Guide to De-stressing

Becoming a new mom might be one of the biggest life changes we ever experience and with it comes so many emotions, stresses, and worries. But here are some of our favorite tips on how to tackle those challenges!

1. Support Groups

It’s true that raising a child takes a village! As a new mom, don’t be afraid to lean back on your support group, whether that be close friends or family members. It’s so important to have someone to talk to and share concerns or advice with. Consider joining a local group of new moms in your town or find one online.

2. Breathing Exercise

Self care doesn’t have to mean deep tissue massages or yoga classes, it can be as simple as saying “No” to new engagements or doing breathing exercises. Try the 4-7-8 breathing exercise which helps relax your nervous system and reduce anxiety. How does it work?

First, sit up with your back straight. Then place your tongue at the roof of your mouth and behind your upper teeth.

Exhale completely, making a whooshing sound. Close your mouth and inhale to the count of 4.

Hold your breath for 7 counts. Afterwards, exhale for a count of 8.

It’s a simple exercise that can make a big difference for new moms and help ground you in the present.

3. Find time for yourself

Easier said than done, but finding fun and educational activities that will entertain your child can give new moms some much needed respite. Sensory play kits require little set up and planning, plus they encourage curiosity, build fine and gross motor skills, and can support language development. 4. Paper To Do Lists / Agenda

With activities, school, groceries, and the dozens of little things to get done floating around in your head, it can be so easy to forget things. It’s tempting to put everything on phones and other

forms of technology, but using a paper list can give you a break from screens and reduce the likelihood of distractions. Plus, it’s so much more satisfying to scratch an item off your list
